Health Examination Requirements Update:
Students who were unable to obtain a health exam in the required grade this school year have until September 1, 2021 to obtain the required health examination. Click here for more information.
Our school nurses are licensed Registered Professional Nurses(RNs), and we employ Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) that assist the RNs.
RNs & LPNs are overseen by New York State under the auspices of the University of the State of New York Education Department Office of Professions.
All nurses must maintain current CPR and AED certification at the Health Care Provider level and must obtain Infection Control Certification every 3 years.
School nurses also complete Concussion Education Certification every two years through the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) program.
School Nurse Continuing Education is obtained through the New York State Center for School Health (NYSCSH) as well as through Community Health providers & programs.
Our nurses cover the health offices in 2 high schools, 2 middle schools, 5 elementary schools, as well as 8 non-public schools that are in the district.
Nurses may provide first aid, medication administration, monitoring of acute and chronic illnesses, evaluate and assess health needs, as well as provide technical nursing skills related to healthcare.
Nurses are trained to provide screening for vision, hearing, & scoliosis per NYS Guidelines at required grade levels.
Nurses are required to evaluate student immunization records and status, and submit annual reports to New York State Department of Health.
Nurses document on every student seen in the health office for health problems.
