Childcare for Medical/First Responders
The Kenmore-Town of Tonawanda School District is partnering with the Ken-Ton YMCA to provide free childcare for medical workers and first responders while schools are closed due to COVID-19 (coronavirus).
Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed an Executive Order today directing school districts to develop a plan for childcare "with an emphasis on serving children of parents in the health care profession or first responders who are critical to the response effort."
"Every district will be required to submit a plan to ensure children of healthcare workers and first responders have access to child care so these closures do not strain our hospitals," Gov. Cuomo said in a statement.
Childcare will be provided from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday for children of eligible workers age 5-12 at the Ken-Ton Family YMCA, 535 Belmont Ave. beginning Thursday, March 19. Eligible workers are medical workers and first responders who are the parents, guardians or primary caregivers of children age 5 to 12.
Those who are eligible and interested in pursuing this option should contact the Ken-Ton YMCA at 874-5051 or email@example.com. Upon confirmation that the individual is a medical worker or first responder, the YMCA will provide additional information and instructions. The YMCA may be contacted with any questions.
