Childcare for Essential Workers
Please Note: As of April 1, 2020, the Ken-Ton YMCA has been approved to accept children ages 3 and 4 who are potty trained.
The Kenmore-Town of Tonawanda School District is partnering with the Ken-Ton YMCA to provide free childcare for essential workers while schools are closed due to COVID-19 (coronavirus). Children age 3-12 are now able to be accepted.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed an Executive Order on March 17 directing school districts to develop a plan for childcare "with an emphasis on serving children of parents in the health care profession or first responders who are critical to the response effort."
"Every district will be required to submit a plan to ensure children of healthcare workers and first responders have access to child care so these closures do not strain our hospitals," Gov. Cuomo said in a statement.
Childcare will be provided from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday for children of essential workers age 3-12 at the Ken-Ton Family YMCA, 535 Belmont Ave.
Those who are interested in pursuing this option should contact the Ken-Ton YMCA at 874-5051 or firstname.lastname@example.org. Upon confirmation of eligibility, the YMCA will provide additional information and instructions. The YMCA may be contacted with any questions.
