Lena Scapillato, Kenmore West High School Art Teacher
We are very pleased to recognize Lena Scapillato for our Kenmore West High School Teacher recognition.
Lena has been an Art Teacher at Kenmore West for the last 2 years. She was selected for this recognition because of her innate ability to make positive relationships with anyone she comes in contact with. Her dedication as a teacher in the art room and all she does outside of the classroom to enrich the lives of Kenmore West students, staff, and the school community is unmatched.
This year, Lena was the head of our Foundations Committee and helped spearhead the remarkable Tier 1 initiatives in the cafeteria. She was a lead for one lunch period, during which she helped to reshape teacher engagement with students during lunch, including contests, structures, alternative lunch spaces, and recess-like activities in the gym. With her help, we have transformed the cafeteria into a calm, safe space for all to enjoy.
Additionally, Lena helped to organize student artwork for the Educational Day of Healing and Restoration following the one-year anniversary of the tragic Tops shooting. She is also able to create a space in her classroom centered around social-emotional needs through creative class-building, peer conflict mediation, and out-of-the-box classroom projects.
In her short time at Kenmore West, she has helped to positively impact not only her neighborhood but the school's overall culture. Congratulations, Lena, and thank you for all you do!
