Alicia Koerber-Schwock, Edison Elementary School Teacher

Alicia, an Edison and District Vision Teacher, is always working her hardest to educate her students and build their self-advocacy skills. She goes above and beyond in her planning, meeting with teachers and communicating with parents. She has to work with multiple teachers and service providers to organize meaningful instruction. She motivates her students to take pride and responsibility in their work and build their self-confidence. Alicia looks for ways to share her students’ learning and unique skills so she can educate her peers on the different ways people can learn and read. This year, Alicia not only teaches in the school, but also provides home instruction to a student with multiple disabilities 3x a week. In addition, Alicia is the 504 coordinator for Edison, which is like having a second full-time job. She attends multiple 504, CSE and IST meetings. Alicia is not the type of person to share all that she does and does not expect any thanks for the many hats she wears on a daily basis. She is a behind-the-scenes superhero who deserves a great deal of recognition.
