Jay Robbins, Kenmore East High School Teacher
Jay Robbins has a total of 31 years’ teaching experience in the area of Physical Education, including 26 in Ken-Ton, and 21 at Kenmore East. He has also taught at Jefferson, Hoover and Kenmore West. He grew up down the street from Kenmore East. He attended Green Acres Elementary and Hoover Jr. High before moving to Pittsburgh for High School. Returning to his hometown to teach physical education was the fulfillment of a lifelong dream. Jay graduated from Slippery Rock University and lived in Las Vegas for 10 years(right after the Blizzard of '77) before returning to Buffalo. Besides being an outstanding educator in the field of physical education, Coach Robbins has dedicated his life working with student athletes: he has a total of 34 years coaching, 31 at Kenmore East. Jay coached Basketball for 28 years, Golf for 23 years, and Baseball for 9 years. Principal Patrick Heyden notes that regardless of the sport, Jay coached his student athletes in life. He was always there for them, regardless of their situations, and his balanced outlook on life benefitted his students in ways that they will never forget. Jay Robbins is a certified Taiji and qigong instructor through Center for Taiji Studies of NYC and Dr. Yang Yang. He will continue these pursuits in retirement, as well as focusing on the four Gs: Grandkids, Golf, Gardening and Gongfu!
