Ken-Ton Welcomes German Exchange Students
From October 8-19th, the Ken-Ton School District was once again excited to host several students and staff members from Germany!
A total of 17 Ken-Ton families hosted 18 German students and two staff members as part of an ongoing foreign exchange partnership with the Frankengymnasium, a German high school in Zülpich, Germany. The partnership dates back to 2006 and since then, Ken-Ton has welcomed Germany students in the fall semester and have sent our Ken-Ton students & staff members to Germany the following spring.
During their 11-day stay, our German friends enjoyed excursions to Niagara Falls, Downtown Buffalo, the AKG art museum, Buffalo State College and Fort Niagara.
Students were also treated to additional community activities thanks to their host families and were able to experience events like fall fests, Sabres games, haunted houses, and Bills games.
"One of the highlights for the Germans was no doubt experiencing all the homecoming festivities at Kenmore East and Kenmore West," German teacher Matt Gabel said. "The festivities included football games, dances, powder puff games and pep rallies as these are all uniquely American cultural events."
German students also did their best to experience American cuisine and sampled all the local dishes, many of which were represented at the culminating group potluck organized by the families.
The foreign exchange partnership will continue in the spring when 16 Ken-Ton students and their German teachers will be traveling for a 13-day trip to Germany to visit their new friends and the surrounding areas of Cologne, Bonn, and Berlin.
