Ken-Ton will once again be represented at the English-Speaking Union (ESU) National Shakespeare Competition at the Lincoln Center in New York City!

Clare Day, a senior at Kenmore West High School, earned a spot in the coveted field after placing in the top 50 in the country. The Advanced Theatre and IB student advances to the semi-final round on April 15th. There, she’ll portray Juliet in Act 4, Scene 3 of “Romeo and Juliet”.

“Clare has represented Theatre West and Kenmore West High School impressively, and we are thrilled to have her carry on to the Nationals,” teacher Diana Gruninger said. “A standing ovation is in order!”

The top 10 performers from the semi-finals will advance to the final round with prizes awarded to the top three. First place will receive a scholarship to the Midsummer Conservatory at the British American Drama Academy in the United Kingdom, second place will receive a scholarship to the American Shakespeare Center’s Theatre Camp in Virginia, and third place will receive $1000. There’s also a $1000 prize for the People’s Choice winner.

This isn’t the first time a Kenmore West student has made the national competition field. In fact, over the last seven years, Kenmore West has had three students, including Clare, make it to Nationals.
