East & West Students Participate in Environmental Summit

Students from Kenmore East and Kenmore West recently presented and participated in the 2nd annual Niagara River Greenway’s Environmental Ambassador Summit. The event, held at the Linde Facility, brings students and organizations together to improve green space in the greater Tonawanda area.

Each group of students developed proposals and then created presentations to display at the summit. The projects were presented in front of a panel of judges who are working to help make these proposals come to fruition in the next few months.

Kenmore East’s proposal was to create a chalk competition called “Buffalo to Niagara Falls and Back – A Transportation System for the 21st Century and Beyond”. They plan on inviting student ambassadors from Summit participating schools that will be instructed to develop and draw an ideal futuristic, efficient, zero-carbon emitting, and aesthetic appealing form of transportation that connects the City of Buffalo to Niagara Falls and back. The group received a $1,000 stipend for their presentation and are planning on holding the chalk competition on June 1st at Niawanda Park.

Kenmore West’s proposal was to begin a school vegetable and pollinating garden that would benefit students through learning opportunities and locally grown produce to eat at lunch. They hope to plant the garden alongside the school and upkeep it throughout the school year and summer. The group was awarded a $1,000 stipend for their presentation and are hoping to get more funding donated to help complete the project.

Students from Kenmore West who took part in the summit included Maria Ramos Rua, Emilija Mirilovic, Kerry-Ann Lewis, Elizabeth Heerdt, Nina Parker, Quinn Blair-Heim, Caroline Rhoney, Augie Williams, Yared Gesesee, Lily Licata, and Serenity Licata. Those from Kenmore East who presented included Raina Deitrick and Ava Claire Boring.

Congratulations to our students on a job well done!
