Seventh graders at Hoover Middle School are making a difference and spreading kindness in their community!
Every year in the 4th quarter, students in Kelly Bacon’s English Language Arts classes complete kindness projects of their choosing. This year’s projects have included making cookies for the Town of Tonawanda Police Department and Hoover Middle staff, making muffins for nurses at ECMC, and making goody baskets for patients at Roswell Park.
“By completing these projects,” students see firsthand that 7th graders can make a difference in their school and community,” Bacon said. “It’s so important for my students to realize that kindness matters.”
Their most recent project involved making birthday bags for the Ken-Ton Closet. Around 115 total bags were made by five different classes and inside were birthday plates, napkins, cake mix and frosting, birthday candles, balloons, some small toys, and candy. The bags will be delivered to the Ken-Ton Closet on Thursday, June 1st and will go to Ken-Ton closet customers who have children celebrating a birthday over the next two months.
“The Ken-Ton Closet is such an amazing organization that directly improves the quality of life of children in our district by providing them with clothing, school supplies, and birthday bags at no cost,” Bacon said. “When Ken-Ton Closet Assistant Director Cathy McLeod told me about the birthday bags, it sounded like the perfect way for my 7th-grade students to spread kindness throughout our Ken-Ton community!”
