Kenmore East Gymnast Wins Section VI Floor Exercise Event

Emma Newman celebrated for win

Kenmore East junior Emma Newman won the floor exercise event at the 2019 Section VI Gymnastics Championships with an outstanding 9.425 score.

The event, held on November 1 at Williamsville North, saw the top 50 gymnasts for each event compete for the opportunity to represent their team and Section VI at the state championships on Long Island this spring.

In addition to winning the floor exercise, Emma placed sixth on balance beam and ninth on uneven bars. Fellow Kenmore-Town of Tonawanda UFSD gymnasts Shaelyn Gibson and Adriana Bona from Kenmore East and Juliana Santiago from Hoover Middle also represented the team at the meet.

The previous Saturday, Kenmore-Town of Tonawanda UFSD gymnasts who didn't qualify for Sectionals competed at the Karen Riker Halloween Invitational and won their division. Kenmore West's Kenna Black took first in the all-around competition, while Kenmore East's Alessia Craig took third. Kenmore West's Isabella Ciotoli and Kenmore East's Ashley Kurzdorfer placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in the all-around, and many other team members brought home ribbons that day.
