Anonymous Donor Makes Classroom Initiative a Reality

A former Hoover Elementary School parent, who prefers to remain anonymous, keeps an eye out for projects on DonorsChoose.org from Ken-Ton School District teachers which she has supported in the past.

When she saw Hoover Elementary School teacher Lisa Chiavaroli's current project "Make Academic Gains by Ending Student Hunger Pangs," aimed at providing nutritious and allergy-free snack options consistent with the district wellness policy, she did more than just fund the project – she purchased the items herself and personally delivered them to the school.

DonorsChoose.org is a non-profit organization that helps public school teachers nationwide acquire funding for projects that help meet the physical, health, wellness, and academic needs of students. Initiatives are often for items which are not included on student supply lists or that exceed classroom budgets but could have a significant impact on student outcomes.

The anonymous donor first communicated with DonorsChoose.org to inform the non-profit that she would be able to shop for the items at a lower price at a retailer where she has a club membership. She purchased every item requested on the list and personally delivered them to Hoover Elementary on March 5.
