Erie County Teen Vaccination Clinics

  • After securing a supply of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine late last week, the Erie County Department of Health (ECDOH) has scheduled three COVID-19 vaccination PODs (points of dispensing) especially for 16- and 17-year-olds and their families on May 1.

Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine will be available for teens ages 16 and 17; Moderna COVID-19 doses will be available for anyone age 18 and older. Sites will be SUNY ECC North in Williamsville, SUNY ECC South in Orchard Park, and McKinley High School in Buffalo.

ECDOH will communicate Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine availability to school districts and private schools at scheduled ECDOH clinics. In the future if additional Pfizer COVID-19 is available, ECDOH will consider planning PODs at school locations. Parental consent forms for 16- and 17-year-olds will be available before May 1 electronically and on site at ECDOH clinics.

ECDOH noted that students/families who get their second dose on schedule (May 22 for Pfizer and May 29 for Moderna) will be considered “fully vaccinated” by early- to mid-June, since one is considered fully vaccinated two weeks after their second dose. This would be in time for many proms, graduations, and other summer events. This will be important for many families because of new rules that require attendees to provide proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test.

The clinic will be prom-themed with an assortment of giveaways for high school students in attendance, items ranging from mugs and water bottles to gift cards and electronics.

For those age 16 and 17 who will not have a parent/guardian present, they must bring proof of ID (such as a school ID, learners permit, social security card, passport, etc.) and the completed NYS COVID-19 Immunization Screening and Consent Form or be able to be contacted by phone to provide consent.
