School Closing Information

    In the event of severe weather or other emergencies, notification of school closings will be posted on the District homepage at www.ktufsd.org under "District Announcements" as well as on the District Facebook and Twitter pages (@ktufsd). All parents and staff who are set up to receive messages through the Infinite Campus ShoutPoint system will receive an email, text message and/or automated phone message.     If schools are closed, the Kenmore-Town of Tonawanda UFSD buses will not operate in any capacity. Also cancelled will be athletic competitions, sports events, community/continuing education and staff development courses.
     
    Important Transportation Information
    When the Kenmore-Town of Tonawanda UFSD is closed, Ken-Ton buses will not operate for any students. This includes students who attend school in another district that remains open. Please also note that Kenmore-Town of Tonawanda School District buses will not travel through a district that has closed due to weather conditions. That means that, if the the Ken-Ton School District remains open and buses are operating, transportation may not be provided for a student if it would necessitate travel through a district that has closed due to weather conditions.
     
    Two-Hour Delay
    In the event of an announced Two-Hour Delay, bus pick-up times for all in-district and out-of-district transportation will be delayed two hours from the usual pick-up time. All District public schools will start two hours later than the normal start time. There will be no morning Harkness, Kenton, or Potter Road service. Assume afternoon and evening activities will remain scheduled unless otherwise noted. Schools will dismiss at the usual times. Morning Pre-K classes will be cancelled. Activities scheduled to take place prior to the school day will be cancelled.
     
    Snow Day Information
    In the event of inclement weather, safety of students and staff is always the only consideration when deciding whether or not to close school. Different factors are looked at including road conditions, wind chill, anticipated daytime snowfall, and the ability of staff to travel safely to and from work. Dialogue with numerous individuals including the Transportation Department, the Town Highway Department, law enforcement, and weather forecasters begins as early as 3 a.m. and often the night before when adverse weather is anticipated. WNY weather conditions can vary significantly in a small area, can change abruptly and often contradict forecasts. The questions that are decided are: Is it safe for students to travel to and from school, whether they are riding the bus, walking, being driven, or driving themselves, and will staff be able to safely travel to and from work?
     
    The decision is communicated as soon as it is made using every avenue at the district’s disposal including TV and radio stations, automated phone calls, automated text messages, and information posted to social media and the website. Often, there are some who disagree with the decision to close school or to keep school open, and that is understandable. Sometimes, due to the unpredictable weather, conditions change after closing/opening decisions are made. Student safety is the most important thing to all and families’ individual decisions are respected.
