4 Ken-Ton Music Teachers Among WNY Jazz Poll Winners

Once again, several Ken-Ton School District music teachers were among the winners and nominees in the annual JazzBuffalo Poll which represents some of the most talented jazz musicians and ensembles in the greater Buffalo region.

This was the fifth year of the poll, which is conducted by JazzBuffalo (the Greater Buffalo Jazz Society). This was the fourth year in a row for Laura Anderson, Ken-Ton School District music coordinator and Kenmore West High School instrumental music teacher, who was the Jazz Baritone Saxophone winner, and Lisa Hasselback, vocal music teacher at Franklin and Lindbergh Elementary, who was the Jazz Piano winner.

For the third year in a roll, Kenmore East High School band director Phil Aguglia was the Middle School/High School Educator winner. Also, the winner in the Jazz World category was the Hot Club of Buffalo, which includes E.J. Koeppel, string teacher at Franklin Elementary and Middle School.

Another Ken-Ton music teacher was among the finalists who had been nominated for the poll: Kenmore East High School music teacher Mike Ihde, who was once again nominated in the Alto Saxophone Category.

JazzBuffalo is dedicated to promoting and fostering appreciation for jazz music in Western New York. The JazzBuffalo Poll allows readers, audiences, fans, musicians, and jazz supporters to vote for what audiences most appreciated that year. The poll honored one winner in each of 34 different categories.
