Lindbergh Elementary Celebrates Love of Literacy Week
Lindbergh Elementary celebrated all things reading and writing with its Love of Literacy week-long celebration!
On Monday, the school hosted author Amy Ludwig Vanderwater. Vanderwater currently lives in Holland, NY and has written more than 10 books, including "Every Day Birds" and "The Sound of Kindness"! Vanderwater met with staff for a breakfast meet-and-greet and then held three different assemblies where she talked about her love for writing and the process of turning an idea into a piece of work. At the end of the week, two students from each grade will have the chance to win a signed copy of one of Amy's books, as part of a PBIS prize.
On Tuesday, the school welcomed several "guest readers" as each brought a favorite book of theirs to read to classrooms around the school. Guest readers included Ken-Ton District administrators, Lindbergh and district staff members, as well as students from the Ken-Ton Big Picture program.
On Wednesday, younger and older students got together for a "buddy reading day". Classes and students were paired up as each group read a book together and got to know one another.
On Thursday, the school held a book swap! Students were asked to bring in books they no longer needed or wanted. Staff members then placed all of the collected books onto two tables - one on the first floor for students in Gr. K-1 and another on the second floor for students in Gr. 2-4. The school collected enough books for each child to select two!
