Town of Tonawanda Explorers Post 1835The Town of Tonawanda Police Department sponsors Law Enforcement Explorer Post 1835. Explorers are young men and women who are 14 through 20 years old and interested in a career in law enforcement. Explorers learn about law enforcement from the ground up in an action program that takes them behind the scenes to experience law enforcement through tours, presentations and, perhaps most importantly, hands-on experience.The primary objective of law enforcement Explorer Post 1835 is to provide interested young men and women with the opportunity to gain a general knowledge of the work and contributions of individuals engaged in a law enforcement career.When does the Explorer Post 1835 meet?Explorer Post 1835 meets usually every other Wednesday in the fall, winter and spring months between the times of 7:00 pm and 9:00 pm, unless otherwise noted. During the summer months, Explorers are assigned to one or more ride-alongs. This gives the Explorer a chance to experience hands-on experience with trained Town of Tonawanda Police Officers.Goals and Objectives

Introduce Explorers to law enforcement in a positive, dynamic manner.

Provide an action-based, varied program of classroom and field activities.

Introduce the Explorers to exemplary role models of law enforcement officials.

Develop an appreciation and understanding of law enforcement service.

Provide a basic orientation to the function, principles and goals of law enforcement service.

Instill an understanding and appreciation of the process of justice, human relations, efficiency, morality, legality and ethics involved in law enforcement service.
Membership Requirements-
Be between the ages of 14 and 20

Be in High School or college

Obtain parent or guardian's consent

Be a U.S. Citizen

No criminal record or drug use

Must be able to pass a background investigation

Have an interest in law enforcement
