Students Compete in Empire State Games for Physically Challenged
On Friday, October 18th, nine students from Kenmore East High School, Hoover Middle School, and Franklin Middle School competed in the Empire State Games for the Physically Challenged. The games took place at SUNY Brockport and provided student-athletes with the opportunity to compete in adapted sports and fitness with physical challenges.
Athletes range from 5 to 21 years old and include several divisions based on an athlete’s physical challenge. Events include archery, field events (club throw, discus, soft discus, precision throw, high jump, long jump, distance kick, shot put, and soft shot put), track events (ambulatory and wheelchair), power wheelchair, slalom obstacle courses, and swimming. All athletes who compete receive an Empire State Games uniform and a medal.

The Empire State Games are free to athletes and spectators thanks to Camp Smile, the Webster Lions Club, and local communities.
