Kenmore West's Jack Johnson Takes On New Role with NYSPHSAA
Kenmore West student-athlete Jack Johnson is gaining valuable experience, making a difference, and playing an important role in New York State high school sports. This is all thanks to a new role with the New York State Public High School Athletic Association, where he’s currently serving as the male leader of New York State's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
“My goal while serving on the S.A.A.C is to be the voice for student athletes who often do not have a say in big decisions,” Jack said. “I want to help make NYSPHSAA sports the best it can be for all involved.”
Jack was the S.A.A.C. male representative for Section VI in 2023-24 and was later given the opportunity to apply for his new role. After earning and stepping into his new position, Jack hit the ground running. Most recently, he attended the NFHS National Student Leadership Conference in Indianapolis where 33 states and three countries were represented. He attended workshops and breakout sessions, and learned what it takes to be a leader and serve others.
“Being in this position has been amazing,” Jack said. “Giving back and showing leadership is very important to me.”
Jack will be very busy in his new role with eight different S.A.A.C. meetings to attend throughout the year. These meetings are where decisions are made that affect all high schools across the state. He’ll also travel to Syracuse in December for the S.A.A.C summit and to Albany in March for the NYSPHSAA student leadership conference. There, he’ll hold his own breakout session to talk about his experiences and insights he’s gained while serving as a leader. His position with the S.A.A.C will end at the end of his senior year when he graduates.
As a senior at Kenmore West, Jack is captain of the football team and is heavily involved with unified basketball and unified bowling. He's also a part of the Kenmore West S.A.A.C., where he's involved with many community events.
Congratulations to Jack and way to represent Ken-Ton!
