Aguglia to be Honored at NFIEC Commitment to Education Event
Kenmore East band teacher Phil Aguglia is being recognized once again!
The longtime director, who was also a GRAMMY Educator of the Year finalist in 2023, has been selected as an honoree for this year’s Niagara Frontier Industry Education Council (NFIEC) Spring Commitment to Education ceremony. The award is given annually to educators who exemplify outstanding work in supporting the Western New York community.
In January, Aguglia played an important role in the Winter Youth Jazz Festival. The all-day clinic gave area high school students the chance to attend a day of workshops, live performances, and recording sessions. They also gained valuable hands-on experience by learning from industry professionals – most notably Robby Takac from the Goo Goo Dolls, who was on site to speak with students and offer his expertise and inspirational words. This event came months after Aguglia was inducted into the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame for all his hard work both in and out of the school classroom, including providing his students with unique and exciting opportunities.
“The collaborative partnership between Kenmore East, Erie 1 BOCES CTE Campus @ Calspan, and the Music is Art Foundation is a testament to your dedication to the success of Western New York students,” the NFIEC said in a letter to Aguglia.
Aguglia will be honored at a celebration on May 5th.
