Students Taste Test New Breakfast/Lunch Options
Kenmore East High School students Kayla Baron, Anna Bandinelli, Elizabeth Ensminger, and Grace Melber speak with Food Service Director Kim Roll about potential new options for breakfast and lunch menus.
Kenmore East High School students Kayla Baron, Anna Bandinelli, Elizabeth Ensminger, and Grace Melber recently helped the Food Service Department with some new options that might soon be available on breakfast and lunch menus in Ken-Ton Schools.
Earlier, the students had expressed interest in a new menu item. Specifically, they wanted to see waffles offered on the school menus. The Ken-Ton School District Food Service Department led by Food Service Director Kim Roll with help from Kenmore East High School administrators decided to bring the four students together to test out two new meal options.
One was a warm waffle breakfast sandwich with sausage, egg, and cheese on two round waffles.
The other was a chicken-and-waffles dish which included chicken rings and a waffle square, which might soon become a lunch offering.
The students tried some samples and provided their thoughts and opinions. Their feedback was that they would love to see the chicken and waffles dish prepared with popcorn chicken and two waffles, and they all agreed the waffle breakfast sandwich was delicious!
They also had the opportunity to learn more about the challenges of developing the breakfast and lunch menu and the colossal undertaking involved with preparing and serving meals to hundreds of students in schools each day. It sounds like these two meal options passed the taste test challenge and students should see them offered on the menus next year!
