Q: Is Kenmore East so “bad” that we need a Police Officer here full time?

A: No. Kenmore East is not “bad” or unsafe in any way. Our school district and our community want what is best for our students. Ken-Ton is joining several other districts in Western New York that have had an SRO for many years. Having an SRO at our school does not mean that there are problems at the school. In fact, it means just the opposite. The SRO is in a unique position to prevent criminal activity before it occurs. An SRO acts as a deterrent to crime. The goal of the SRO is not to catch students doing something wrong but rather to deter them from even trying. An SRO provides a law enforcement presence as well as an informational, educational, and counseling resource to the students and staff.  In fact, a large part of my job has nothing to do with enforcing the law. Although the safety and security of our building is my number one priority, an equally important part of my job is improving relationships between youth and police. Helping out a student that is having a problem is very rewarding for me. Being a role model, mentor, and friend to our students is very important and is the most satisfying part of my job.

    Q: Are you armed?

A: Yes I am. I am a Police Officer and I come to work everyday in full uniform, including a gun.

Q: What do you do when school is not in session?

A: During the summer months I am at summer school working the summer school program. During holiday breaks and “snow days”, when school is closed, I report to the Town of Tonawanda Police Dept. and return to my former position as a road patrolman for the day. You will also see me working security at school functions such as dances, concerts, and sporting events.

As hard as I may try, I cannot do this job alone.  I encourage you to contact me with any questions, concerns, comments, or information.  Together we can make this school a wonderful and safe learning environment for everyone.

Thank you for visiting the Kenmore East SRO Webpage.
