Teacher, Administrator Receive WNYESC Award of Excellence
The Ken-Ton School District is proud to honor art teacher Denise Carr and Director of Elementary Education Michael Muscarella, recipients of the 2022 Western New York Educational Service Council (WNYESC) Award of Excellence.
They were presented with the awards at the annual WNYESC recognition banquet on April 26th. Mr. Muscarella, who received the Award of Excellence in the Administrator Category, and Ms. Carr, who received the Award of Excellence in the Teacher Category, were among only 17 individuals from throughout Western New York to be honored at the dinner.
WNYESC is a service organization that provides support for the educational community in Western New York, such as professional development, mentoring opportunities, and research. Each year, WNYESC honors exceptional teachers, support staff, administrators and Board of Education members at its annual Awards for Excellence Banquet.
Denise Carr is a visual arts teacher at Kenmore East High School and serves as the Ken-Ton School District Art Coordinator. In this capacity, Denise has worked tirelessly to make Ken-Ton one of the best districts for art education. She was cited for her work throughout the school year providing opportunities for students to express their creativity and to be highlighted for their artistic achievements and accomplishments. She was also cited for numerous partnerships and collaborations which have resulted in amazing large-scale community art projects or exhibitions such as a year-long collaboration with Oshei Children's Hospital, the recent “Love the Skin You’re In” exhibit, and a partnership with local municipalities to paint murals decorating storm water drains in key locations in town.
Since August 2018, Michael Muscarella has served as the Ken-Ton School District's Director of Elementary Education. He oversees the district’s five elementary schools and Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) Program and works with the district’s Instructional Support Specialists to support the work of classroom teachers. Mr. Muscarella was cited for his commitment to collaboration and outstanding leadership over the elementary school principals. He was also cited for numerous initiatives in which he has played a key role including the partnership with the YMCA, expansion of the UPK program, reopening of Hamilton Elementary, Ken-Ton Forward strategic plan, curriculum enhancements, and ongoing capital project, just to name a few.
