Ed Mahoney
Ed Mahoney is a Kenmore West High School alumnus and a member of the Kenmore West Athletic Hall of Fame who has served as a volunteer coach within the Kenmore West Varsity Baseball Program for the past eight years. Ed has been a tremendous asset to the team. He works one-on-one with the pitchers, a position he has significant expertise with, and assists Coach Haynes in calling pitches during games. He and his wife Gladys never miss a game. Ed has built very strong relationships with the players, who have benefited immensely from his guidance. He is a lot of fun to be around and loves telling stories. Recent health issues have not slowed him down. He still attends every game and practice and continues to play an integral part of the team. His devotion to the team was evident when Ed used his own money several years ago to endow a $500 annual scholarship which was awarded to a senior each year at their annual awards banquet. During the COVID-19 pandemic, instead of picking just one of the players, Ed decided to award a $500 scholarship to each senior on the team. And this year, there were three seniors who qualified for the scholarship, and once again, Ed decided to award each one a $500 scholarship. In this way, Ed has truly demonstrated his devotion to the players.
