Alicia Matesic was actively involved in the Edison Elementary School Parent/Teacher Association ever since her oldest child was in kindergarten more than five years ago. She quickly joined the PTA Board and took on the position of President at the start of the 2018-19 school year. At the time, it could have been said that she had big shoes to fill, following in the footsteps of longtime Edison PTA leader Gennie Vitko. Mrs. Matesic did not let the Edison community down. She served as PTA President for three years and made countless contributions to the Edison community including promoting parent participation and volunteerism, facilitating new student activities, helping to design new safer arrival and dismissal procedures, and bringing the immensely successful Fun Run to Edison. She continued to serve as PTA President until the end of last year as her youngest child moved up to middle school. She also served on the Edison Shared Decision Making Team and the District Reopening Task Force. She has been a tireless advocate for the Ken-Ton School District and has championed budget votes and the 2020 Capital Project referendum. From coordinating teacher appreciation videos to dropping off donuts at the Administration Building at the height of COVID reopening planning, Mrs. Matesic has sought to make the staff feel appreciated and valued for the work they do. She was also an amazing resource for her fellow Edison parents. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, she served as a bridge between families and the school and District administration. She connected families with resources and information, answered questions, and sought to make sure all felt supported. In the nearly six years her children were at Edison, she volunteered countless hours organizing and running events, working alongside families and staff, and finding every possible way to enhance the student and family experience and making the school an even more special place.
