Winter Sports Highlights
The winter sports season saw numerous achievements by Kenmore East and Kenmore West teams and athletes. Kenmore East bowler Kaelynn Weber helped lead the Section VI team to a NYS championship; Kenmore West Boys Hockey finished the season 15-6-0-1 and clinched the Division II Championship; and several athletes in swimming, indoor track, wrestling, and rifle distinguished themselves at the Section VI and NYS tournaments, just to name a few.
Kenmore East Bowling
During the 2018-19 season, Kenmore East eighth-grade student Kaelynn Weber led all girl bowlers in the Niagara Frontier League (NFL) with a 191 average and went on to qualify for the NYS Championships as part of the Section VI team.
At Strike N’ Space Lanes in Syracuse on March 9, the team found itself in first place after the first three games and faced perennial state competitor Section XI representing Long Island. With just a 15-pin lead going into the final game, Kaelynn and the Section VI team ended up clinching the NYS Championship by 46 pins.
Kaelynn had averaged 210 pins across six games. Her highest was a score of 279, and she was distinguished individually for bowling the second-highest game of the state championship tournament.
Kenmore West Hockey
Kenmore West Hockey finished the regular season 15-6-0-1, clinching the Division II Championship. Seeded second in the Section VI playoffs, the team defeated North Tonawanda 8-0 in the quarterfinals but fell to West Seneca West in the semifinals.
Forward/captain Ethan Yotter was named to the All-Bee First Team, was a Federation First Team Small Schools All-Star, and finished his career at Kenmore West as the school's all-time assist leader (73) and just one of four players in school history to surpass 100 points. Also, forward Michael Barker received an All-Bee Honorable Mention.
Swimming
The combined Kenmore East and Kenmore West Swimming and Diving Team had five swimmers qualify for the NYS Championships which took place March 1-2 at the Nassau County Aquatic Center on Long Island: Mazin Awad, Brandon Garcia, Benjamin Harper, Colin Janis, and Matthew Walker. Harper went on to place fifth in the 50 freestyle.
Previously, at the NFL Championship, Walker placed first in both the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke; Harper placed first in both the 50 and 100 freestyle; and Awad placed first in the 100 backstroke.
Indoor Track
The Kenmore West Indoor Track Team had two qualifiers for the NYS Championships: Chris Kaszynski, who won first place in the pole vault at the Section VI Championship, and Mark Marrelli, who won second place in the 55m hurdles at the Section VI Championship.
Kenmore East Girls Basketball
Carianne McCarthy finished her basketball career at Kenmore East with 696 points, 10th highest in school history, and was named to the All-NFL Second Team.
Also, Lyndsay O'Brian was named to the All-NFL Third Team and received the Niagara Police Athletic League Female Comeback Athlete of the Year Award after recovering from two ACL tears.

Wrestling
Senior Nolan Sander and freshman Noah Michael from the combined Kenmore East/Kenmore West Wrestling Team were both distinguished as Second Team All-Stars. In the 285 lb. class, Noah won second place at the Class AA Championships and fifth place at the Section VI Large School Championships. In the 195 lb. class, Nolan won fourth place in both tournaments.
