Thanks to the Fitness for Kids Challenge and the November theme of "5 Fruits and Veggies a Day," all students in grades K-4 at Edison Elementary were treated to a food tasting of a variety of fruits and vegetables.
During Mrs. Zugelder's, Mr. Robey's and Mr. Horvatis's PE classes, all students had to chance to taste and learn about many different fruits and veggies, how they grow, and what important vitamins and minerals they give to your body. They also participated in a challenge called the "re-think your snack" where students has to find similarities in the healthy food vs. the unhealthy food and think-pair-share with how they could replace the unhealthy items with healthy ones.
The foods they tasted included: watermelon, cantaloupe, bean sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, sugar snap peas, carrots and pomegranate juice.
The Fitness for Kids Challenge is part of a yearly incentives organized by monthly themes hosted by Independent Healthy and coordinated at Edison Elementary by Edison PE teachers.
