Don't Forget to Register for Kindergarten & Universal Pre-K

The Ken-Ton School District encourages all parents, guardians, and families with children who will be eligible for Kindergarten (age 5 on or before December 1, 2020) or Universal Pre-Kindergarten (age 4 on or before December 1, 2020) to register for the 2020-21 school year which begins in September.

Because of the high volume of new registrants who register each summer, families are encouraged to register for Kindergarten and UPK soon if they have not done so already. This assists the district and its schools in critical planning for the upcoming school year.

The UPK Program, which is operated by the Ken-Ton YMCA, is a free half-day program that provides traditional classroom instruction designed to introduce academics and enhance socialization, physical activity, communication, creative thinking, and to prepare children for kindergarten. The Ken-Ton YMCA also offers a wrap-around childcare program from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. (please note that, while the UPK program itself is free, there is a fee for the wrap-around program). For more information, visit

Registration for Kindergarten and UPK is through the Ken-Ton School District Central Registration Department. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Central Registration is providing families with two different options to register:

  • In-Person Registration: Families will be able to register in person at the Central Registration Department, 1500 Colvin Blvd., by appointment only (please call 871-2090 to schedule an appointment). Please note that safe social distancing procedures are being followed to ensure the safety of families and staff, and that visitors are required to wear a mask and gloves when submitting paperwork. Only copies of documents will be accepted (no originals please).
  • Online Registration: During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Central Registration Department has provided a new express online registration process which allows families to complete an electronic form and submit documentation/paperwork via email.

Please contact the Central Registration Department at 871-2090 or for more information or if you have any questions. You can also visit for more information about the registration process. To register, parents/guardians will need a completed registration packet, their child’s original birth certificate or baptismal certificate, photo ID, two current proofs of the parent/guardian’s residence, and their child’s current immunizations and physical.

To be eligible for Kindergarten, children must be 5 years of age on or before December 1, 2020. To be eligible for Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK), children must be 4 years of age on or before December 1, 2020 (a child cannot turn 5 years of age between December 2, 2019, through and including December 1, 2020 to be eligible for Universal Pre-K).

Please note that families that have older children and have recently moved, or are planning to move, to the Ken-Ton School District should also plan on registering for school. Parents who expect to register a child in a non-public school for kindergarten need to complete a Private/Parochial/Charter School packet. Contact the Central Registration Department for more information.
