Holmes' Jennifer Conway Earns Regional ELL Advocate Award
Congratulations to Jennifer Conway, one of our district coordinators and Holmes Elementary ENL teacher, for being awarded this year's English Language Learners Advocate Award, handed out by the Regional Bilingual Education Resource Network. RBERN is a NYS Education Department-funded organization which provides free assistance to school districts who serve ELL populations.
This distinction is given to a staff member who has engaged in meaningful advocacy work on behalf of English language learners. This can include work in the local community and any impact on changes in a local school district and beyond. The intention is to recognize advocacy efforts that have a significant impact, but might not otherwise be known or receive attention.
Jennifer began her career in Ken-Ton in 2008 and has been a driving force in the district's educational initiatives. She has skillfully managed the district’s ENL program, ensuring that all students, regardless of language barriers, have access to high-quality education. She works tirelessly to support both students and teachers, addressing the complexities of schedules, meeting required service minutes, and ensuring that special education services are appropriately delivered to ELL students.
Jennifer’s advocacy extends beyond her regular duties. When Hamilton Elementary reopened as the district’s new full-day UPK hub, Jennifer was instrumental in establishing an English as a Multilingual Language (EML) program there to set our youngest students on a path to success from the very beginning of their educational journey. She plays a critical role in anticipating and resolving staffing challenges, mentors new staff, facilitates NYS testing, and helps teachers navigate complex issues such as special education services, community challenges, and translation needs.
Congratulations to Jennifer on this incredible accomplishment!
