Farm to School Program Kicks off with "An Apple a Day" September
Earlier this summer, the Ken-Ton School District was proud to be one of 16 schools across New York State to receive grant funding through the "Farm to School Program."
As the school year begins, our Food Service Department is introducing ways to get students educated and excited about different foods and their many healthy benefits.
September's theme is "An Apple a Day" with three unique opportunities for seniors, 5th graders, and K-1st graders. Here's what each of those grades can look forward to:
- Seniors: All seniors in our district can sign up for a harvest of the month box which will incorporate this month's food item, an apple. Those interested need to fill out this form by September 22nd. Boxes will then be available for pick-up at the end of the month.
- 5th graders: All those students in 5th grade can sign up for an applesauce cook-kit to make at home. Those interested need to fill out this form by September 22nd. Cook-kits will be delivered to each school and sent home with students on September 30th.
- Kindergarteners & 1st graders: All students in kindgergarten and 1st grade can sign-up for an at-home education learning kit that will center around this month's theme. Those interested need to fill out this form by September 22nd. Kits will be sent home with students on September 30th.
Again, all forms close on September 22nd. Additional opportunities for other grade levels will be available throughout the rest of the school year, starting with a new "theme" in October. Details soon!
