Scott and Devontae were two of only six to be honored with this award. They were selected by a committee comprised of Buffalo State College Exceptional Education Department faculty, out of nominees from schools across Western New York.
They and their families were invited to a special award ceremony at Buffalo State College, which took place on November 15.
The Horace Mann K-12 Student Award was established in honor of the late Horace Mann, a SUNY Distinguished Service professor emeritus of exceptional education at Buffalo State College who passed away in 2010. Schools at which Buffalo State College has teacher candidates in field experiences are eligible to nominate one distinguished student to recognize his or her achievements in the arts, music, athletics, technology, and school engagement.
