August 21, 2018
I hope your summer has been filled with fun, sun, and an opportunity to recharge your batteries. As we are gearing up for a new school year, I wanted to share a few important developments at Kenmore East.
First off, I would like to welcome Mr. Trevor Brown as our new assistant principal. Mr. Brown attended Kenmore East as a student, taught Social Studies at Kenmore East, and he has been in various administrative roles in the district. I am very excited to welcome Mr. Brown back home, and he will be overseeing 8th and 9th grades. Mr. Greco will be overseeing grades 10-12.
I would like to remind new students that new student orientation will occur on August 29, from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. You should have received a letter regarding this, or you can find more information on the school’s web page. “Be a Part from the Start,” hosted by our student-led LINK CREW, will take place on Thursday, August 30 from 7:45 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. for new students as well.
The portal will open on August 27th, and students can access their schedules at that time. Any requests for changes need to be handled through your counselor during drop/add week, which will take place during the first week of school. The dates will be released soon.
Students, if you need a copy of your schedule on the first day, we can print one out for you. Please report to the following locations if you need a schedule printed:
Grade 8: Mr. Brown/Attendance Office (114)
Grade 9: Main Office
Grade 10: Mr. Greco’s Office (117)
Grades 11 and 12: Counseling Center
Students, September 4 and 5 are your opening days. We will run a day 1 on both days, and there will be administrative/PBIS assemblies on September 5th, as follows:
Period 1: Grades 10 and 11
Period 2: Grade 8
Period 3: Grade 9
Period 9: Grade 12
Parents, in an effort to maintain a safe school environment, we will be implementing a single point of entry system in Ken-Ton, which means that there will only be one place we will be allowing visitors into the building after the start of school. This door (Door #1) is located in the parking lot, right outside the main office, and there is visitor parking close by.
Students, one of the items we will be addressing at our opening day assemblies will be after school activities. When the school day ends, you have several choices, and I encourage you to get involved in athletics, clubs, or work with a teacher on any day. However, after school we do not have the resources to monitor students in the building, and if you are not working with a teacher in a supervised setting, you need to leave the premises. This includes the porch area. If you are a student who is waiting for an athletic or late bus, you will be required to report to the athletic/extracurricular study hall in the cafeteria, and remain there until you are released. I appreciate your support in this area as we continue to focus on student safety.
I hope you enjoy the final days of summer, and I look forward to working with you this year!
