Residents have the opportunity to learn more about the rich history of Kenmore and the Town of Tonawanda through periodic bus tours offered by the Ken-Ton School District.

Participants board a school bus which departs from Kenmore Junior/Senior High on Delaware Road for a 90-minute drive through Kenmore and the Town of Tonawanda. The tour is narrated by Superintendent Sabatino Cimato and Board of Education President Matthew Chimera and it passes numerous locations of significance for the Town of Tonawanda, the Village of Kenmore, and the Ken-Ton School District.

The tour includes dozens of locations of historical importance in areas throughout the town and village as well as current and former school locations. Mr. Cimato and Mr. Chimera not only detail the history of the Ken-Ton School District but the Town of Tonawanda and Village of Kenmore as well going back to the early 1800s. All participants receive a map which includes the tour route and detailed information about dozens of different locations so they can follow along.

These include all district schools as well as schools that have long since closed and the district’s earliest educational institutions, not to mention important locations along the Niagara River, neighborhoods, areas with historical significance, and other points of interest.

The tour was first introduced for new teachers entering the district in August 2022 and was expanded to include tours for community members as well. The tour is free and open to all school district residents. These tours typically begin at 6 p.m. and reservation information is published in the Ken-Ton Bee. You can also check the district website at www.ktufsd.org/BusTour for upcoming dates. Be sure to check back frequently since new dates are periodically added based on interest. Registration is always required since seats are limited and are provided on a first-come/first-serve basis with a waiting list maintained if needed.
