Kenmore West's Sophia Penrose Earns Prestigious Scholarship

Kenmore West senior Sophia Penrose has earned the most selective and highly-valued scholarship offered by Niagara University. Those who receive the Lois Lyon Brennan Scholarship will have their tuition, fees, room and board, and books covered for their four years at Niagara University.

Sophia is planning on earning a psychology degree with plans to go to Med School and become an ER Psychologist. She says having the financial burden of college lifted off her family's shoulders, is everything.

"I started crying," Sophia said when she found out about the scholarship. "To know we [my family] don't have to go through the loan process and everything like that, it was emotional. I'm so happy I'm able to do this for my parents and tell them they don't have to worry about any of that."

Sophia has been an active member at Kenmore West. She is a part of the National Honor Society, Link Crew, theatre, student council, and more. She loves to volunteer and help those in her community.

"I love doing it and what I really like about Niagara, is they continue doing that and pushing students to get out there," Sophia said. "They actually require volunteer hours with this scholarship and I'm really excited to keep doing things in my community."
