Kenmore West Girls Leadership Academy Visits City of Buffalo Animal Shelter

The Kenmore West High School Girls Leadership Academy (GLA) recently visited the City of Buffalo Animal Shelter to learn more about the facility and the adoption process. The shelter is run by volunteers in the community and, although they have both dogs and cats, the majority of animals at the shelter are dogs looking for homes.

The GLA consists of Kenmore West students who provide mentoring, support, and friendship to younger students in the Ken-Ton School District while also building leadership skills and engaging in community service projects.

The shelter is overseen by the City of Buffalo Public Works Department and supported by the non-profit Friends of the City of Buffalo Animal Shelter. The shelter is responsible for caring for injured, abused, lost, and abandoned animals, finding loving and responsible homes for animals, reuniting families with lost pets, and keeping potentially dangerous animals off the streets.

The girls donated handmade bandanas and cards for families that adopt from the shelter. Their favorite part of the trip was helping name some of the new animals and meeting Michele, a dog looking for a home.
