Project Lead the Way (PLTW)
In the internationally recognized Project Lead the Way (PLTW) pre-engineering curriculum, PLTW Engineering students adopt a problem-solving mindset, are engaged in compelling, real-world challenges that help them become better collaborators and thinkers, and are prepared with skills to step into any career path they take.
Design & Drawing for Production (DDP)
Prerequisites: None | Grade Levels: 9-12
This course follows the NYSED curriculum guide for DDP, satisfying the art/music/design requirement. Students engage in design projects using traditional and modern techniques in updated prototyping labs. Serves as a prerequisite for all PLTW courses or as a stand-alone elective. College credit is available through RIT.
PLTW Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM)
Prerequisites: DDP | Grade Levels: 10-12
Focuses on manufacturing processes, assembly lines, CNC equipment, CAM, and robotics. Students advance from DDP to design visualization and Vex robotics troubleshooting. College credit available through RIT.
PLTW Principles of Engineering (POE)
Prerequisites: DDP | Grade Levels: 10-12
A survey course introducing engineering concepts found in STEM college programs. Hands-on activities include electronic power packs, solar vehicles, robotics, aerodynamics, and more. Can substitute for a third unit of science credit. College credit available through RIT.
PLTW Computer Science Principles (AP CSP)
Prerequisites: DDP recommended | Grade Levels: 10-12
AP/PLTW course introducing computer science and the College Board CSP framework. Covers app design, internet security, intelligent machines, and data visualization. Available as elective or PLTW sequence course. College credit available with successful AP completion.
PLTW Digital Electronics (DE)
Prerequisites: DDP recommended | Grade Levels: 11-12
Explores digital circuits used in modern electronic devices. Topics include logic design, teamwork, and communication methods. Can substitute as a third unit of math credit (with Algebra/Trig). College credit available through RIT.
PLTW Capstone (Formerly EDD)
Prerequisites: At least two PLTW courses including DDP | Grade Levels: 11-12
Capstone design course where teams research, design, build, and test original solutions to open-ended problems with mentorship from industry professionals. Students present final solutions to an external panel.
