Alumni Spotlight:
Jennifer Spors, Kenmore East High School Class of 2012
Kenmore East High School alumna Jennifer Spors was the 2016 recipient of the prestigious D’Youville Medal, the highest honor that can be bestowed upon an undergraduate student at D’Youville College.
The award recognizes students who are outstanding in academic performance as well as service to others – a college senior of outstanding character, intellectual achievement, service and loyalty. Jennifer was presented with the award at the 2016 D’Youville College Honors Convocation at Kleinhans Music Hall and is pictured with her award presented by D’Youville College President, Sister Denise Roche, PhD.
“This year’s D’Youville Medal winner has contributed under the radar but at the same time, her resume is filled with the service that St. Marguerite modeled for us,” D’Youville College stated in its award letter. “She has given multiple years of service through SA, residence life, orientation programs, Lending A Hand, the admissions ambassador program, the Health Careers Opportunity Program (HCOP) and her academic honors society. Over her four years at the college she may have given back to the college and its organizations more hours of service than any other person on campus, and yet… she has done so without fanfare, in her own effective and determined manner. At the same time she has maintained high academic standing in a demanding program and has been a go-to student for her faculty and fellow students in that program.”
Jennifer received multiple additional honors, including the Jean Dolan Delaney Scholarship, Dean’s List and special recognition for maintaining a Graduate GPA of 4.0 for the 2015 fall semester. Jennifer had made the Dean’s list every semester at D’Youville College, finishing the undergraduate portion of her degree with a 3.7 cumulative GPA.
“There is no doubt the roots were planted for college readiness from the years in Ken-Ton and at Kenmore East in particular,” said Jennifer’s parents, Paul and Kris Spors. “Thanks to each of the district leaders and to the staff of teachers she has had over her years at Kenmore East, Franklin Middle and Edison Elementary for teaching Jennifer the great study habits and the character traits which are making her successful in college.”
“Without hard work and determination, I would not be where I am today,” said Jennifer Spors. “I could not have achieved this level of success in the Occupational Therapy Program without the support and dedication of the Ken-Ton school teachers. I am proud of my years in the Ken-Ton district and to be a Kenmore East Alumni.”
Jennifer is graduating with a combined bachelor’s/master’s degree in Occupational Therapy.
