Kenmore West Senior Rachel Janish Receives President's Volunteer Service Award
The award, which recognizes Americans of all ages who have volunteered significant amounts of their time to serve their communities and their country, was granted by the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program on behalf of the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation. Kenmore West nominated Rachel Janish for national honors this past fall in recognition of her volunteer service.
Rachel is a member of the Link Crew Student Leaders, mentoring eighth and ninth graders new to the school; co-coordinator of the Purple Pinkie Project with Kenmore Rotary, which raised more than $2,000 to aid the global effort to eradicate polio; vice president, fundraiser and spirit coordinator for the Class of 2017.
“Rachel is committed to improving the lives of her peers, school and community,” said Darcy France, club adviser. “She gives me hope for a bright future.”
“By recognizing these students and placing a spotlight on their volunteer activities,” said John Strangefeld, chairman and CEO of Prudential Financial, “we hope to motivate others to consider how they can also contribute to their community.”
Prudential Spirit of Community Award applications were distributed nationwide last fall in middle schools and high schools along with many local community organizations. These schools and community programs nominated local honorees, whose application were advanced for state-level judging. The Prudential Spirit Award on behalf of the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation selected state honorees. Volunteers’ activities were judged on criteria including personal initiative, creativity, effort, impact and personal growth.
